Painting

After a long hiatus from painting, Chloe is at it again.  We've been spending hours together at the table just playing around with the watercolors, learning how to use them and learning what we like.  Once she felt confident, Chloe started on a crab painting and the more she added, the cuter it got.

Today she was working on this sunset practice page.  She's not thrilled with it but has learned a lot about what her next painting will look like.  I love what she makes.

Sunset at the Beach

We went out last night to the beach because the kids wanted to try to see a pretty sunset and maybe, definitely, get wet.  The sunset wasn't anything spectacular but the sun did turn neon pink for about five minutes before setting.

Even a non-spectacular sunset is still pretty amazing.  We live in a very pretty place.

A Hair Cut

Always overdue.  Always difficult.  Always thrilled!

Little Things

Little things I love around the house right now:

(1) sleeping kitties zonked from the heat  (2) a line of Cube-ee Wall-E's on my piano making it impossible to play music but making me smile anyway  (3) the prettiest my coneflowers have ever been since planting a garden 6 years ago  (4) an off-roading course on the refrigerator where Evan moves the Jeep a bit each morning  (5) a collage of love-filled art from my angel girl who can't get enough of her mama lately

The Boneyard

While fetching the ball during a game of ball tag, Todd stumbled upon a small animal skull and a pile of small bones.  Apparently last year, Roy (the cat) made himself a lair in the ground cover in our backyard. Chloe was fascinated and collected every last bone that was there.  Evan thinks they can rebuild it like a dinosaur.  I'm not sure what will become of this collection, but you've got to love backyard science.

Making Friends

With all the attention the kids have been giving the crabs lately it was only a matter of time before they figured out how to hold them without getting pinched.  (Evan has these special gloves for his woodcutting projects -- they're a bit big on him, but perfect for protecting little hands.)  He's holding Kermit in the photo, the most 'outgoing' of the crabs.
